OFFF by night: made for the curious
Last weekend, the first edition of OFFF by night took place in Antwerp. OFFF by night is a design festival that has its roots in Barcelona. It’s a meeting point for all creative talents around the world. Think: Offline/online designers, motion designers, sound designers, graphic designers, developers,… OFFF invites all those eager to learn, participate and wanting to get inspired in a three day journey of keynotes, workshops, activities and performances. Long story short: OFFF is for the curious. And curious as we are, we went to take a look!
OFFF by night: first impressions
OFFF by night was hosted in one of Antwerp’s many exquisite venues: Parkloods at Park Spoor Noord. And from the first step into the building it became clear: OFFF by night is more than just an everyday conference. The place was decorated with a stack of containers, flashy projections, colorful LED & plasma screens, beautiful stands and so much more.
The main stage was equipped with the finest surround system and a massive screen, making everything easy to follow even for the people in the last row. The Q&A stage was more cozy and intimate because – as the title itself clears out- there was room for interaction with the artists.
Where offline meets online
Both stages welcomed all different kinds of interesting professionals from all over the world. The variety of styles in their designs was remarkable. And if you think graphic design is all about next level Photoshop skills, you’re wrong. It seems as though graphic design is not limited to the Adobe-kit. It was intriguing to discover how many of the speakers used physically handcrafted experiments as a basis for their design. To put it in one of the speaker’s words: “Approach graphic design like real life objects, make it interesting from every angle.” (Rizon Parein, Antwerp)
Come for the talks, stay for the experience
Almost as important as the keynotes is what happens next to the stage. Curator Rizon Parein aimed to find the perfect balance between content and fun. Tasty food & drinks, art installations, a cozy lounge corner and a farmers market. They are all ingredients to create a unique and relaxing experience. Add some games to that and you have the perfect ice-breaker to meet new people and potentially forge exciting collaborations. Our favorite fun factor? The King of Pong ping pong tables with a creative twist, made by Deri3. A halfpipe table on which the ball always goes in unexpected directions whilst playing? Or a round table that spins? Why not!?
That being said: OFFF by night, you were awesome. See you next year!
